Park Golf Introduce

From a Small Town to a Global Sport

What started as a local community idea in Makubetsu Town has since spread to many countries, including Korea, China, Mongolia, and Southeast Asia, growing into an international sport.

Today, Park Golf is enjoyed by people around the world—but its roots trace back to a small grassy park in Hokkaido, Japan, in 1983.

The history of Park Golf began in Hokkaido, Japan.
In the early 1980s, an idea emerged to make better use of spacious public parks by creating a new sport that people of all ages could enjoy easily. The concept was to preserve the fun of traditional golf while simplifying the equipment and rules, making it more accessible to everyone.

At the center of this movement was Makubetsu Town, Hokkaido, where local residents took action in 1983. They developed a golf-like sport on park grass fields to promote community health and leisure activities. This became the origin of what is now known as Park Golf.

At first, Park Golf was a small local sport enjoyed only in parts of Hokkaido. However, its many advantages quickly gained attention across Japan.

Its simple rules, short playing distances, moderate physical activity, and family-friendly nature made it highly appealing. People could enjoy the excitement of golf without the complexity or cost of traditional golf.

As interest grew, the Japan Park Golf Association was established in 1986. The association organized official rules, national tournaments, and course development, helping Park Golf expand nationwide.
